Backpacking Checklist

A backpack is a great way to keep all of your camping gear in one place.
Plan ahead and think about what you will need for the entire camping trip.
Only bring what is absolutely needed.  Put your name on your gear.
 
  • Basics
    canteen with water (or water bottle), personal first aid kit
    compass, whistle, pocket knife, matches
    small flashlight, batteries
    bug repellent (non-aerosal), sun screen
  • Clothing
    clothes suitable for weather and location
    plastic poncho
  • Food & Drink
    food for all meals, drinks, snacks
    mess kit (pots/pans), spatula, can opener
    cup, plate, knife/fork/spoon
    small sponge, liquid soap (clean-up)
    paper towels, garbage bag(s)
  • Personal Items
    soap, towel, toothbrush, toothpaste
    medications, toilet paper
  • Sleeping
    tent, sleeping bag, sleeping pad, pillow
  • Misc
    folding chair, small cooler
    Scout book, advancement materials
